Find Points of Dominica

Posted by Lisette Stevens

When a client comes to Dominica to look for property, they sometimes have no idea what an adventure they have embarked on.

Dominica is such a beautiful island with so many contrasts, the west coast bounding the Caribbean sea has the most amazing sunsets; the beaches are mainly black sand and the coastline is very gentle. The ocean on this side of the island tends mostly to be calm, great for swimming, chilling and liming on. The land near the coast is not very fertile as it tends to be very dry.

We move a little to the Atlantic coast the change is dramatic. The north of the island has quite a few white sand beaches with a lot of surf and very rugged cliffs of red rock which are dramatic against the the backdrop of green. The south east again has the most wonderful rugged coastline with a lot of pebbles and stones on the shore, where the waves crash constantly; this is a very lush part of the island with palm trees and much foliage close to the shore. On this coast we have the most wonderful sunrises.

Inland from the coast we have mountains, rivers, fabulous lush land that produce the most gorgeous fruit and vegetables, totally fertile. Nobody ever goes hungry in Dominica, it is definitely a self sufficient island and very different from the other Caribbean islands. I feel that the island is 20 years behind the other islands in the Caribbean chain.

Anybody that comes to Dominica should be prepared propertly and pack walking shoes, long sleeve shirts, good protection from the sun. Exploring land to buy can be a challenge and great fun. Luckily we have no poisonous snakes or dangerous critters here so this is very good. Just the odd mosquitoe and jiggers which are little ants that can bite hence wearing long pants long sleeve shirts and socks and sturdy shoes. We always take water in a cooler and sandwiches to keep away the hunger pangs. It really is an adventure well worth taking.

  1. Hello Lisette,

Reading your blog makes me want to jump on a plane and come back to Dominica. It is interesting reading your blog, and I think you couldn’t have put it any better.
Being there i can confirm that its all real and breath taking, standing on the sand banks on a hot sunny day looking at the waves rushing in makes you feel the excitement of breathing in fresh air from the open sea.
